Josephine Harreld Love, born December 11, 1914 in Atlanta of mixed black, white and Native American parentage, studied and was active in the fine arts from an early age. She received a B.A. in English from Spelman College, a diploma in piano from Juilliard School of Music, and a M.A. in musicology from Radcliffe College.
